Home renovation projects
This is the work on renovating an old property bringing it up to code and making it attractive to live. This is all the work I have been doing in spare time and weekend work since picking up the keys at the February 18th 2026
Taking out the old rotten window and replacing the metal grate with a step and still allowing airflow to the cellar, The window went further back than the grate approx. 3 foot deep ( filled in with concrete bricks and about 1 ton of cement ( takes a while to dry this out especially under ground )
Removing extending hardcode base digging up grass removing a few broken flag stones, removing existing garden fence building up new fence posts, building new drive gate and gate to match, one of the posts found a live active gas main which was not documented on the plans almost went though it with the SDS drill. Could not remove one of the post as it would have involved removing existing flagstones which would have needed additional tools I did not have to my disposal at this point so the post I was going to use for this I decided to make in to a bump guard for the car so I don’t drive on the lawn.
Easy fix removed paint from exiting rail
About 40 years of paint has ruined the architrave on this door frame I had tried to save it but there was too much lost and would need way too much filler so pulled this off to revel pervious owner had done a bit of a botch job of electrics where they had it running around the door frame ( not up to code made a note of this as this will need to be fixed when I get on to rewiring the house)
Replaced the leaking Yorkshire stone on the pitched roof and installed a membrane to prevent leaks, the front of the property still has Yorkshire stone to keep the character of the building. ( will be doubling up the loft insulation before winter sets, also replaced the lead flashing on the chimney and on the gully which leads to the hopper )
